The very first communication service to be used by Sapphire was Skype. Skype laid a foundation for the group as a whole, but then it became obsolete. Because of Skype's poor quality, and lack of utilities that were needed by Sapphire, it was no longer used. Bryan is the Director of Voice Communications and thus was always entitled to an administrative rank on the voice servers.

The group had expanded into RaidCall, an upcoming communication program (at the time) which seemed promising. The group originally stayed in a group called sapphiredev having t3sla as the Server Admin. After, Slar had decided that t3sla abused his powers too much, and became the Server Admin of his own channel called Dirty Sapphire in which the crew moved to and suffered even worse power abuse and corrupted administration here.
After a short while, Caleb complained that Emanuel abused his powers too much. As a result, he defected and started his own channel called Dirty Sapphire. The group came to the unanimous decision to join his channel. Although Caleb promised better conditions, Sapphire suffered even worse power abuse and corrupted administration here. It was during these times that members of Sapphire were beefing with each other nearly every day. The overall atmosphere of RaidCall was agitated and irritated. The general consensus was that the group needed an even better voice communication program.

Eventually funds were organized to expand into TeamSpeak. Finally, the funds were brought by Bryan and the TeamSpeak server was opened. It had the right utilities to keep the group functional, therefore it stuck.
After a bit of restructuring, Bryan set up a TeamSpeak server for Sapphire. The server has moved hosts quite a few times, due to inadequate service. Finally, in late 2016, the TeamSpeak server was moved onto the same box as the website, eliminating the separate cost of a server.

Brief history

Early members of Sapphire turned to Skype because it was the best form of communication known at the time. As Sapphire began to grow throughout 2012, it drifted away from Skype's services due to their relatively poor quality and lack of utilities.

In the summer of 2012, Emanuel proposed a transition to the RaidCall to the rest of the Founders, which was approved. RaidCall was a new project that had seemingly promising features. Emanuel created the first RaidCall channel, sapphiredev, and served as the Server Admin.

After a bit of restructuring, Bryan set up a TeamSpeak server for Sapphire. The server has moved hosts quite a few times, due to inadequate service. Finally, in late 2016, the TeamSpeak server was moved onto the same box as the website, eliminating the separate cost of a server.

Starting in 2021, use of the TeamSpeak server became deprecated by the Sapphire Discord server (formerly known as the Red Lotus Discord Server).
